FWPP and our allies obtain documents from government agencies that relate to farm worker pesticide issues on a regular basis. These documents are sometimes provided in response to comments we have sent. They are sometimes handed out at meetings or provided in response to our informal requests. Other documents are obtained through formal requests made by FWPP and our allies under the Washington State Public Disclosure Act or the Federal Freedom of Information Act.
Letter from WSDA to Senator Linda Evans Parlette (August 20, 2003), obtained through Public Disclosure Act request by an ally. This letter discusses WSDA's policies and posture regarding pesticide drift.
WSDA Response to FWPP Drift Comments Made in 2003 (June 15, 2005). FWPP submitted comments to the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) on pesticide drift during a general rulemaking in 2003. WSDA sent us this response on June 15, 2005.
Documents Revealing Bogus Sample Submissions to Medical Monitoring Lab. Farm worker advocates did a general public disclosure act request to L&I as part of tracking implementation of the new medical monitoring program. FWPP reviewed the documents received and was shocked to discover that the Farm Bureau and other parties had arranged for the secret submission of blood samples to the state lab from individuals who are not farm workers. It was only through the public disclosure act request that farm worker advocates learned that program data was contaminated. See also the Washington State Labor Council letter to the state auditor objecting to the use of state funds related to review false samples.
Enforcement Reports. A Power Point presentation was prepared by WSDA's Ofelio Borges shedding light on overall non-compliance rates at Washington orchards in 2002. Also available is a report prepared by WSDA's Matt West in 2005 with information on enforcement activities and compliance in 2004 and 2004.
